To the point - ever get going on a highway and notice your car really picks up in volume? Ever wish your engine sounded better to you and your passengers, without disrupting your music? I set about with the goal of creating a near-silent car with only high-rev engine noise so it still has some spice.
So this is my own plan for a perfect-sounding car:
Some enthusiasts would shun my decision to dampen the engine bay, but I say to you: all the good noise comes from the pipes. That's why a new exhaust is said to be what makes the greatest difference in "Cabin-to-engine Noise Feedback" (CNF). When dampening the car's inside experts say to leave a whole area open on the floor where the exhaust starts and one where the muffler is. Insulating the doors and wheel wells help focus in on the engine sound, and block the outside noise. It's said that this combination (and maybe a sprinkle of noise canceling on the firewall) will give me the best noise balance I can hope for in an SUV or this era and price range. Reporting soon!
